The Plenitude mattress from the Simmons pocket spring range is a mattress we can call complete, from craftsmanship to technology, thanks to its biactive independent springs (identical to those of the Simmons Elite range mattresses), a thin layer of memory foam to gently increase comfort and a topper (quilted layer, additional mattress pad) sewn onto both surfaces, padded with wool on the winter side and cotton on the summer side, which provides healthy, welcoming comfort as well as an attractive appearance. A true centrepiece of the bedroom.

What are the alternatives to the Simmons Plenitude mattress? Simmons Plenitude combines progressive-response pocket springs, a Pillow Top on both sides and a substantial build, around 28 cm deep. There is also a layer of memory foam, which adds to the comfort without producing the enveloping feel and slow adaptation typical of many mainly memory foam mattresses. Plenitude in fact remains elastic and responsive: it adapts quickly to the body and makes movement and changes of position during the night easier.

The following mattresses are not identical to Plenitude, but they share some of its key features: progressive comfort, high surface comfort, quality and immediate response.

Gabrielli King Superior 1600 is our choice for the best balance between comfort and price. Simmons Plenitude is available in medium and firm, while King Superior 1600 has a single balanced firmness. According to our comparative tests, its firmness sits roughly between the two versions of Plenitude: it is slightly more supportive and less enveloping than the medium Plenitude, but less firm than the firm Plenitude. Surface comfort is similar in quality and progressiveness, thanks to the thick Soft Touch pad, the memory foam layer and the independent springs. King Superior 1600, however, gives a crisper, less enveloping feel, while maintaining an elastic and immediate response to movement. King 1600 Superior is the closest alternative to Simmons Plenitude, according to our tests. In addition, King 1600 has a removable cover and is a medical device, whereas Plenitude is one only in the Dynamic version, which is even more expensive.

Dorelan Rising: the second alternative, Dorelan Rising, has a firmness very similar to the medium Plenitude, while offering overall comfort that is less comparable. The Twin System springs give it a progressive, elastic and pleasantly welcoming response. Compared with Plenitude, however, it has simpler padding: it does not use substantial layers of memory foam, but a layer of Myform Extension, a soft polyurethane foam that improves surface comfort. The result is a responsive and comfortable mattress, but with a less rich and structured feel than Plenitude. Its main advantage is its considerably lower price, especially during promotional periods.
