When looking for firm slats that last longer than the standard ones on the market, people look for wide slats and at least a double support crossbar, but what really matters is the specific weight of a bed base, which depends mainly on the wall thickness of the steel tubing. A cheap bed base weighs 12 to 15 kg at most, because the steel is thin and weak, whereas a solid, quality bed base like this one should weigh at least 25 kg in the 160x190 cm size. When comparing two different bed bases, you should start with their weight

Wide or narrow slats: which is better?

Of course, taken individually, a wide slat is harder to break than a narrow one, so a wide-slatted storage bed base can be considered sturdier. However, since body weight is well distributed across the mattress, a larger number of single slats supports the same weight as wide slats. The essential condition is that there are two reinforcing beams under the slats: this way, narrow slats are as reliable as wide ones.

So is a narrow-slatted bed base better? If you have a pocket spring mattress, a narrow-slatted bed base is definitely better because there is less space between the slats; for all other types of mattress both are fine, provided the bed bases have a double reinforcing beam

The bed base comes with the mattress retainer at the head end (to stop the mattress sliding back when the bed base is lifted) and the handle for lifting the bed base, a soft handle at the foot of the bed base, hidden under the mattress.

The bed base can be bought without the lifting kit (gas pistons and arms), with the standard kit, i.e. to lift the storage bed base at an angle, or with Easy Up lifting, which allows the bed base to be raised horizontally, a position that mainly makes bed-making easier.
