Lots of flexible slats support the mattress without compressing it, adapting elastically to your body weight. Unlike rigid bed bases with two or three crossbars under the slats, Saf Flex provides cushioned support that does not push back against you.

Rigid or flexible bed base: which is better?

The difference between rigid slatted bed bases, with two or three reinforcing bars, and flexible-slat bed bases with a central beam is that the former are meant to give the mattress a flat, unyielding base, like the floor, whereas flexible slats are meant to give the mattress, and therefore the body, more cushioned and responsive support.

In the small double size, 120 cm wide (any length), it has no support crossbars, so that it keeps its flexibility. The 19 slats still provide excellent support for weights up to 120 kg. Go to the dedicated product if you prefer the small double bed base with a crossbar.

The bed base for people weighing over 100 kg

Choosing flexible slats gives your mattress a longer life, because it is not "squeezed" between the weight of the body and the rigidity of the bed base. A body weight of over 100 kg, more or less evenly distributed, might suggest that a bed base with more crossbars under the slats would be better, but in reality it is the quality of the bed base and the number of slats that make it suitable for heavier weights, well over 100 kg.

Thanks to its beech plywood frame and the increased number of slats (19, well above the 12 or 13 slats of standard budget bed bases), it provides proper support even for extra weight: in fact it is guaranteed up to 200 kg.

Wooden bed base: CE medical device

Since October 2024 this wooden slatted bed base model has been classified as a CE medical device, eligible for a 19% tax deduction: request an invoice when placing your order.

Flexible-slat bed base

Saf is a multi-slat bed base, meaning it has lots of slats: a full 19, each 69 mm deep. A double bed base, also available in king-size and French double sizes, made entirely of wood, with a central beam in the double and French double (140 cm wide) versions.

Slatted bed base with black or white frame

The frame and legs can be ordered in white or black instead of the classic natural beech colour. These painted versions are priced differently.

Made-to-measure wooden legs

Supplied as standard with 4 tapered legs in natural beech colour, 28 cm high (to be added to the 7 cm height of the frame), which you can order made to measure by choosing the option from the drop-down menu. Write the leg height you want in the order notes.
