What is the Linus Blanket Syndrome

It's been a lifetime since you last changed your pillow, perhaps due to the laziness of looking for a new one, perhaps out of fear of not sleeping well with a new pillow, or is there something else?

The right pillow for you must exist

While individuality is the fundamental component for choosing the right pillow, and while you may have particular needs, save for rare cases, a good pillow to replace your old one certainly exists.

Pillow attachment syndrome

Over the years, I've met people who haven't changed their pillow for an age. Many of them have tried to replace it, driven by a hygiene impulse or urged by their partner, or they simply don't want to hear about it and hold onto it tightly; in fact, they take it on holiday, it's the first thing they pack in their suitcase.

If you can't find a worthy replacement for your current pillow, it might not be a problem of pillow ergonomics, anatomy, or market offerings; it could be related to your personality. Perhaps you are excessively "attached" to your pillow, more for emotional than material reasons. It's the Linus blanket syndrome.

What is Linus's Pillow Syndrome?

In the most serious cases, those with the longest-lived pillows, you've grown up with your pillow. In this case, the pillow is clearly linked to memories, or childhood memories, not specific episodes, but a state, a security, a protection that we don't have in the same way today. The pillow, like Linus's blanket, is something concrete to hold onto for security, an anchor to the past, a bridge to a safe and comfortable land.

Carrying the old pillow with you on every trip and every move is certainly linked to our subconscious; its reasons should be investigated, but it's not necessarily a real problem. It is, however, a pleasure to preserve childhood or distant memories in general. Maintaining close ties with our past self is not always a negative condition.

Choose your pillow

Don't look for your new pillow based on the old one, because what you're looking for isn't material, it's not tangible. You won't find a pillow identical to the old one; you can't replace it entirely, much like in life.

Here is the pillow category, also divided by height and materials:
