Flexible slatted bed bases
Slatted bed bases with flexible slats to best accommodate the mattress, models with adjustable lumbar supports, with sliders placed on the slats at lumbar level allow the bed base to be made more or less rigid, to support different weights.
Bed bases with flexible slats
Adjustable slatted bed bases can have from 17 to 28 slats for single beds, and 56 slats for double beds. Double bed bases are generally "double-span," meaning they have a row of slats for each sleeping area.
Slats with lumbar adjustment
To adjust the slats of adjustable slatted bed bases, simply move the 2 sliders outwards for greater firmness and inwards for more give. Manufacturers generally engrave the body weight on the slat itself to indicate and guide in the appropriate adjustment based on weight and desired firmness.
Difference between flexible and rigid slats
In a double bed with rigid slats, generally with two or three crossbars under the slats, the slat does not flex and the mattress base is like a wooden divan. In contrast, with flexible slats, there is a central beam and the slats in the sleeping area are adaptable.
