Small precautions are enough to avoid bringing these parasites into the house, which in many cases become dangerous to health, as well as being unpleasant to eliminate.
Where to find bed bugs on holiday
Bed bug infestations are increasingly frequent. These notorious and bothersome parasites, feared by hoteliers, typically infest hotel beds, moving from one to another. How can they be avoided and fought? They are highly infesting insects, difficult to remove, short of disposing of beds, mattresses, sofas, and other upholstered items in the affected room.
Not due to lack of hygiene
Do not associate them with a lack of cleanliness or old houses and mattresses; bed bugs are democratic, infesting homes where they manage to arrive, not dirty or old homes. Let's proceed in order: bed bugs hide in our mattresses because they know that the host will arrive sooner or later to feed them, our blood. In fact, bed bugs are hematophagous insects, those insects that quadruple their size by sucking blood.
How to kill bed bugs
No DDT or other insecticides, they have become immune over time. Only gas or heat irradiated above 60° can kill them; a steam cleaner, for example, works, but only partially, because you cannot irradiate the entire mattress at the same time, and as you pass it, they move. Disinfestation companies use systems with liquid nitrogen. In our posts, we have often received comments from people who, unfortunately, despite the interventions of professionals, have not been able to eliminate the problem. Prevention is the best weapon, I apologize for the banality, but this overwhelming logic is fundamental in this case.

How to identify these parasites
Monitoring your mattress and skin (see below on how to recognize bed bug bites) helps you notice their presence in time, because bed bugs do not arrive en masse in our homes; just one specimen is enough, which will then lay eggs. So, how do they get into our homes?
How bed bugs infest mattresses and homes
Today, the best way to pick up bed bugs is in hotels, holiday homes, and campsites. This is because hotel rooms are exchange hubs where occasional travelers and vacationers pass through, serving as true "express lanes" to move from one house and bed to another, infesting other hotels, and unfortunately, then, private homes. They hide in mattresses, in the most concealed parts, away from the eyes of cleaning staff, and then often subtly move into suitcases, perhaps through an item of clothing placed on the bed, or nightwear. Vacationers usually walk around the city with bags and backpacks that they easily place on the ground, inadvertently picking up microbes and often bed bugs, which they then bring into their hotel room.
How to tell if you've been bitten by a bed bug
In summer, we are now accustomed especially to mosquito bites, which we can easily recognize and tolerate, and whose effect, itching, lasts only a short time. Bed bug bites are like small, dark red wounds that can last up to 10 days. If you find bites like these and you haven't encountered fleas in a field (similar bites), it's likely there are bed bugs in your room.
How to avoid bringing bed bugs home from vacation
In general, even in your city, avoid putting your belongings on the ground, and when you do, as soon as you get home, remember you did and don't place jackets and backpacks on the bed or sofa; shake them out before coming home, and if you can, wash them well. When returning from vacation, wash everything, do not reuse anything, if you can, place suitcases on the balcony and wash or wipe them down, open the various compartments; bed bugs are clearly visible even to the naked eye. If you noticed bites on vacation that could be from bed bugs, pack your clothes in plastic and seal them with an elastic band or a knot, preferably with an elastic band, because they can pass through tight spaces. Wash everything or take items to the laundry and do not leave suitcases in the house. Notify the hotel of the possibility that the room is infested, so they can arrange for disinfestation if necessary.
Anti-bed bug mattress cover
The specific anti-bed bug mattress cover prevents bed bugs from entering or exiting the mattress, as it features a special closure system, not the typical zipper, which is unsuitable for containing them or preventing them from reaching the mattress's hidden parts. So, in addition to being a fitted mattress cover that envelops the entire mattress and having a tightly woven fabric, the zipper closure is also designed to be impenetrable.
