Double Bed Dimensions

The dimensions of a double bed, meaning the base that holds the mattress, vary depending on the model and design of the bed. A double bed generally accommodates a standard 160x190 cm mattress (full size), or 200 cm in length. If it's a storage bed or an upholstered bed, it's definitely wider than 160 and longer than 190. On average, a double bed measures 170x210 cm, so there are 5 cm of extra space on each side beyond the mattress. In fact, it's necessary to start from the mattress size to understand the space occupied by the base plus the frame.

Beds with Reduced Dimensions

Small homes, extended families, snoring spouses often lead to the need for a bed with minimal footprint or zero footprint. What does "zero footprint" mean for a bed? It means that if the mattress measures 160x190, the bed has the same dimensions or is slightly wider and longer, so as not to reduce the usable space in the room. Given the constant requests for sufficiently large beds, we have created a section of beds designed with space-saving in mind: Double Beds with Minimal Footprint

When you need to buy a double bed for your bedroom or guest room, you think about design but also about its overall dimensions. Certainly, for your bedroom, you need a spacious double bed with a comfortable mattress, also in terms of size. But then, is there space for nightstands? And will the wardrobe door open? An upholstered storage double bed, or one without storage, can have a thick, padded headboard that extends laterally beyond the bed frame (the wooden border around the slats and mattress), or it can be more linear and less bulky.

Italy is a country of artists and artisans, skills and experiences that we find in the bedding and furniture sector in general. If we dedicate enough time to finding the most suitable bed, we will be rewarded with the durability and incomparable comfort that a Made in Italy double bed can offer.

Height of the Double Bed

The average height of double beds is about 40 cm, a height that varies depending on the thickness of the bed frame and the height of the bed legs. In storage beds, the thickness of the upholstered bed frame is about 31 cm; in designer beds without storage, it is lower. Generally, the height of the bed plus the mattress reaches about 60 cm, even higher than a chair, for example.

Usable Space of the Bed Storage Compartment

The usable space inside the storage bed is fundamental, especially in height, considering that not all beds are the same. Good internal capacity of the storage compartment allows you to insert boxes and containers to keep the drawer tidy and clean. The internal height of the storage bed drawer ranges from 15 cm to 23 cm, depending on the thickness of the slatted base and the design of the bed.
