A fresh and breathable natural kapok topper

Kapok has traditionally been used in high-quality upholstery and in naturally filled mattresses, toppers and pillows. Its availability may vary according to the supply of this particular raw material.

A lightweight natural plant fibre

Kapok is obtained from the seed pods of the Ceiba pentandra tree. Each fibre has a hollow internal structure and a naturally waxy surface, making the filling exceptionally light and naturally resistant to moisture.

The air held between the fibres contributes to the softness of the topper and allows air to circulate through the filling during sleep.

Handmade in Italy by Gabrielli

Gabrielli has been producing handmade mattresses and natural fillings for over fifty years, preserving traditional Italian manufacturing techniques.

The kapok is carefully selected, opened and distributed by hand inside a 100% cotton damask cover woven with double-twisted yarn.

The final hand tufting helps keep the natural filling evenly distributed without using polyurethane foam layers.

As Floresse is handmade from natural fibres, small differences in depth, weight and finishing are normal characteristics of artisanal production.

Why choose Floresse?

A reversible natural topper

Floresse can be used on both sides. Turn it over and rotate it from head to foot periodically to encourage the natural filling to settle evenly.

Gently shaking the topper, as you would a duvet, helps redistribute the kapok and preserve its volume and softness.

How to place it on the mattress

Lay Floresse directly on top of the mattress. Friction between the cotton cover and the mattress, together with a correctly fitted mattress protector, helps keep the topper in position.

Four elastic corner straps can be added on request. We generally advise against them because constant tension may compress or distort the natural filling and make it less practical to use both sides.

Cleaning and maintenance

For everyday protection, we recommend using a washable mattress protector over Floresse and airing the topper regularly in a dry, well-ventilated room.

Do not wash the complete topper at home and do not apply fabric softener directly to the kapok filling. Immersion in water may alter the distribution of the fibre and make complete, even drying difficult.

For deep cleaning or regeneration, the topper must be professionally unstitched. The kapok is removed and treated separately, while the empty cotton cover can be cleaned according to the appropriate procedure.

The filling is then opened and redistributed by hand before the topper is stitched and tufted again. Please contact Gabrielli or a specialist artisan for this service.

A filling that can be recovered

When its condition allows, kapok can be removed, opened again and reused to regenerate the topper or create another naturally filled product.

This possibility extends the useful life of the raw material and reduces waste compared with fillings that cannot easily be separated and recovered.

The handmade construction allows Floresse to be produced in the main Single, Double, European King and Super King sizes, as well as in custom dimensions.
